building my foundation, daily.

I've been building this company for many years and with the momentum that has come in the last two years, i found myself loosing some balance. Once I finally realized the scales of personal and business life were tipping, it was time to find a solution. I've enjoyed yoga for a long time now; without regularity, so I tried out a few classes out at the YMCA. Exercise is important for me but I struggle to get it done on a daily basis. My mind needs a good work out just as much as my body does. To help balance my brain, I practice meditation most evenings with my husband and feel I'm getting much better at quieting all the voices in my head. You know the voices I mean (please don't make us explain - LOL)

When I took a closer look at my day, and although I love sleeping in; when I did get out of bed it was like the starting gates burst open and off I went. There was no foundation to my day. No fresh fuel to start my day. I was running the race from morning til night. Even though I tried to pride myself on not jumping on my phone the moment I got up; cleaning the kitchen, reading the paper (yes, we still have it delivered), starting random chores, turning on the laptop, checking emails from the laptop - I started these tasks minutes after my feet hit the floor.

I craved a more thoughtful start to my day. I wanted to honor myself and give myself a strong place to start my day from. I downloaded Dr. Andrew Weil's 'BREATHING: The Master Key to Self Healing' and began practicing the breathing exercises first thing. in the morning. Unfortunately, I found myself bored of it after awhile. I started having my coffee time on the patio enjoying the wildlife. I still haven't gotten bored of that, but it wasn't very motivating. As a matter of fact, couple mornings I jumped in the hammock, and let's just say; it was a little too relaxing.

I also enjoy podcasts and self-improvement. I try to listen to one almost everyday; especially when I'm in the car (and not listening to the Grateful Dead station) I enjoy listening to Tim Ferris and usually find his podcast very interesting. So when I stumbled upon his daily routine, I took a look. I liked that it was positive and thoughtful and forced me to think about the day to come and gave me the opportunity to evaluate the results of the day. So i decided to give it a try.

One month ago, I retyped Tim Ferris' questions so I could print four days onto one page and I began taking time every morning to fill out the questions. I'm currently doing it and want to share it in case you are looking for a way to start your day with on a strong foundation. I'm happy to share this journal page with you and save you the time of retyping it. Email me if you want a copy. angie@wastfreeproducts.com

Not only has it provided me a way to actively reflect but it also reminds me to take time for myself each day. The journal starts with WHEN I WAKE UP: Meditate, 5 -10 reps of something, tea time while filling out this journal. I'm up to 5 push-ups, albeit girlie push-ups; but the ripple has to start somewhere.

I hope I'm keep doing this for myself every morning, I deserve it.

Thanks for reading this and sharing in my journey.
